(2) Promotion of art and culture


The Ministry of Culture and Communication has under its jurisdiction the Paris Opera, the Conservatoire of Music, the Conservatoire of Theatrical Arts, and the five National Theaters in the field of performing arts. It also subsidizes local governments and private organizations and educational institutions. In the field of fine arts, it has under its direct jurisdiction the Louvre (Musee du Louvre) and thirty-two art galleries and museums. It subsidizes private art galleries, as well. Also included under its jurisdiction is the National Center of Plastic Arts (Centre National des Arts Plastictues), which receives financial support for creative activities in the field of plastic arts and for the fostering of experts. In the area of films, the National Film Center (Centre National de la Cinematographie) is in charge of subsidies for the production and preservation of films.
