In 1993, exchange programs are scheduled with four Asian countries and two American and European countries.
3. Invitation of Artists from Abroad
To provide opportunities for training in Japan and for exchange with young Japanese artists, since 1990 the Agency for Cultural Affairs has been carrying out a program called the "Japanese Government Fellowship Program for Artists from Abroad, which invites young foreign artists to study in art organizations in Japan. The Agency is endeavoring to enrich this program by increasing the number of artists invited.
Since 1989, the Agency has also been conducting a program to invite from abroad artists, experts in the field of cultural properties, museum and art gallery staff, officials in charge of cultural administration and other individuals who have accomplished meritorious achievements in various fields of art and culture and who occupy leading positions in their respective fields.
This program provides the invited artists and experts with opportunities to engage in exchange of opinions, creative work, research and other activities. They also engage in instruction, joint projects joint research and other activities at cultural and art organizations, for the purpose of contributing to the promotion of Japanese culture and international exchange.
In 1992 the Agency invited highly reputed artists, etc. of various fields ranging over art management, performing arts, modern music, language education, copyright, preservation and restoration of cultural properties, and so on.
