Japan is actively cooperating towards the goal of establishing international copyright protection.
It has been pointed out that, especially in the area of Asia, the copyright system is not as well organized as it might be. As expectations exist that Japan, as a member of the Asian countries, take initiative to rectify this situation. the Agency for Cultural Affairs decided to launch the "Asian Area Copyright System Dissemination and Promotion Project", which began in 1993. Under this program, financial contributions are made every year to the WIPO Permanent Program for Development Cooperation Related to Copyright and Neighboring Rights. Other concrete manifestations of this program, which aim at contributing to the improvement of the copyright system in Asian countries, include the holding of seminars and other events, the acceptance of fellowships and the dispatch of experts.
As a part of this project, a seminar titled "Asian Regional Seminar on Copyright and Neighboring Rights" will be held in Tokyo in November1993, with invitations extended to the staff of WIPO and to foreign experts in the area of copyright.
